Building a relationship with a trustworthy, locally-owned repair shop can help you make informed decisions about aftermarket warranties. At Big Dog Motorsports, we've navigated numerous warranty providers and can provide valuable guidance. Your car deserves the best protection, so choose wisely and drive with confidence.
Considering an aftermarket warranty for your out-of-warranty car? It's a wise move, but not all warranty companies offer the same level of protection. Here's what you need to know:
Purchasing an aftermarket warranty can be a smart choice for out-of-warranty cars, but tread lightly- not all warranty companies offer the same levels of protection!
Basic coverage usually only protects against major failures like engine or transmission issues, exposing your wallet to more common repairs. Choosing a higher level of protection may be worth it, depending on your car, but be cautious about who you're selecting, and always read the fine print.
Reading the Fine Print
Some warranty companies require that they supply the parts, and more often than not- the parts supplied are low-quality Chinese parts- certainly not something you want to use on your finely tuned European machine!
Additionally, many of these warranty companies impose a 30-day (or more!) waiting period before you can file a claim. All warranty companies will require proof that maintenance is up to date, so make sure those service records are somewhere handy.
Most independent shops will not work with these warranty programs for two reasons:
1) We warranty our parts through our wholesalers. If the part fails, we are on the hook for the labor.
2) Independent shops make a markup on parts. It's generally a small markup, but we depend on it to help pay the bills.
Independent Shop Considerations:
If you're considering an aftermarket warranty, contact your independent repair shop and ask if they have preferred warranty companies. At Big Dog Motorsports, we've worked with many warranty providers and can help you choose wisely! Don't hesitate to reach out, we're here to steer you in the right direction for optimal protection and peace of mind.
Remember, always thoroughly review warranty contracts before making any commitments. Pay close attention to the fine print for any hidden clauses or limitations. Building a trusted relationship with your local independent repair shop is key; they can help you make an informed decision when choosing an aftermarket warranty.
